Community is a student-led project for The Buckley School community. This page describes the app’s current design and this introduction website. Community is not the school’s official information system.

Your account

Registration uses your @buckley.org email address, an email verification code, a password, a username, and your grade. The server stores account and profile information to let you sign in and participate. Passwords are stored as hashes, not as readable passwords.

Posts, messages, and media

The server stores posts, comments, messages, and uploaded photos and videos so they can be delivered to the relevant community members. Group and direct messages are not end-to-end encrypted. Avoid sharing passwords, sensitive records, or someone else’s private information.

Anonymous posts and reports

An anonymous post hides your name from other members. Administrators can still see who wrote it. Reports and related content are available to administrators for review, and administrators can remove content.

Service providers and moderation

The backend runs on DigitalOcean. Resend delivers verification emails, and OpenAI services are used for configured AI moderation. Content submitted for moderation may be sent to that provider. AI review can make mistakes; it is not a guarantee that content is appropriate. When push notifications are enabled, Apple processes device tokens and notifications to deliver alerts.

Your school calendar

Your personal My Buckley calendar feed is imported on your device. The Community backend does not receive the feed URL or the imported calendar contents. To-do items are stored locally for your account. Keep your feed link private: anyone with it may be able to read the calendar it exposes.

Retention and deletion

Ordinary posts and chat messages are scheduled for automatic deletion after 30 days. Important and Urgent posts are exceptions. Reports are also scheduled for deletion after 30 days. You can delete your own posts and comments, and messages can be recalled within two minutes of sending. Recipients may already have read or saved content before it is deleted.

Account records are kept while your account is active. For an account or personal-data deletion request, contact ychen@buckley.org from your registered school email. Deletion from the active service does not imply immediate removal from every backup or a recipient’s device.

This website

This introduction website does not use advertising trackers, analytics scripts, account forms, or cookies set by its own code. The hosting server and network providers may process standard technical information such as IP addresses and request details to deliver and protect the site. Links to other websites follow those websites’ privacy practices.
